DCAD Launches Another Innovative Degree Program to Fuel Creative Careers!

We are pleased to announce approval from the Delaware Department of Education to offer a new Associate of Fine Arts degree in Photography and Video, the second addition to DCAD’s degree offerings in the 2022-2023 academic year. “The new curriculum provides a foundation in the technical history of traditional photography that expands into digital specializations, including digital photography, digital video, editing, lighting, and sound,” said Katy Ro, DCAD’s Academic Dean.

DCAD’s earlier addition to its academic offerings came in the Fall of 2022 with a new major in Game Art. This program equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to create compelling visuals, characters, and environments for video games, simulations, and other interactive media. Students will have access to cutting-edge technology and software and will work closely with industry professionals to develop their portfolios and gain real-world experience.

The Photography & Video program will begin accepting students in Fall 2023 and will provide a comprehensive education in both traditional and digital photography and video production. Students will explore a variety of techniques and styles and will learn how to use industry-standard equipment and software. The program will also prepare students for careers in fields such as journalism, advertising, and social media marketing.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer these new programs and to expand our college’s reach and impact,” said Jean Dahlgren, DCAD’s President. “Our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to develop curricula that are both rigorous and relevant to today’s rapidly evolving creative industries. We believe that our students will thrive in these programs and go on to make significant contributions to their respective fields.

DCAD, now celebrating its 25th year and with more than 1,000 graduates, has a history of providing high-quality education in art and design and these new programs are a testament to its commitment to innovation and excellence. Students who enroll in the Game Art and Photography & Video programs can expect a challenging and rewarding educational experience that will prepare them for fulfilling careers in the creative industries.
