Open Position:
Adjunct Faculty – Art History

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Adjunct art history faculty position to teach an introductory course in our first-year survey. Art History 1 is a required survey course that covers the beginnings of Western art from the caves in France through the early Renaissance. This opening is for multiple, 3-credit courses to be taught in-person at our downtown Wilmington campus on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

ADJUNCT ART HISTORY/LIBERAL ARTS FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Teach a course load of at least one and no more than three courses per semester.
  2. Use an official DCAD syllabus to design instruction that supports program competencies and student learning outcomes.
  3. Evaluate student work, post student progress, and provide grades in the manner and time prescribed.
  4. Receive direction and supervision from the Liberal Arts Program Chair.
  5. Participate in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
  6. Participate, as appropriate, in events important to the life of the institution and its students, including faculty meetings, college-wide committees, guest artist lectures.
  7. Adhere to College policies and procedures.
  8. Hold assigned class meetings and weekly online video conference office hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to teach 100- and 200-level courses in art history,
  • Understanding of instruction and innovation through best practices and appreciation of the role of assessment in course and program development.
  • Sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of students of art & design and appreciation of how diversity impacts teaching and learning.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty with the Liberal Arts program in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment.
  • Master’s Degree or higher in Art History or closely related discipline. Ph.D. highly preferred.
  • Experience teaching college-level, experience with online delivery preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
