Admissions Counselor

The Delaware College of Art and Design is the nation’s only private, two-year art and design institution located in the heart of Wilmington’s creative district. We offer an Associate of Fine Art in Animation, Illustration, Game Art, Graphic Design, Fine Art, and Photography. 

The Admissions Counselor will represent the institution at college fairs, high school classroom presentations, portfolio days, and other events. A successful candidate for this position will be a resourceful self-starter with a passion for helping aspiring artists and designers (and their parents) navigate the college admissions process. 

Benefits of this position include health insurance, 403(b), generous paid leave, flexible hours, and the ability to work in a fun and creative environment. This is an entry-level position with a salary of $35,000.

The Delaware College of Art and Design is located at 600 North Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware. Established in 1997 in a joint venture with Pratt Institute and the Corcoran, the College’s mission is to empower emerging creatives to take artistic risks and engage with inclusive and diverse communities. Required Qualifications

Those applying should possess knowledge of college admission guidelines, standards, and procedures and higher education recruitment in general. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to comfortably interact with high school students, parents, teachers, and colleagues, are required. Public speaking experience is a plus!

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, regular access to a vehicle and an Associate’s degree in an art and design field (a Bachelor’s degree in art or design is preferred). Travel is required.

Director of Admissions

The Delaware College of Art and Design seeks a dynamic and motivated Director of Admissions. The Director manages the College’s enrollment process throughout the recruitment lifecycle. The Director manages the Admissions team, coordinates recruitment activities, and develops a comprehensive enrollment plan in concert with key stakeholders. The Director sets recruitment goals for the year based on the Strategic Enrollment Plan and in consultation with the President and CFO. The Director is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with secondary education institutions in the greater mid-Atlantic region to attract a qualified and diverse undergraduate applicant pool.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies, outreach communications, and recruitment events and oversee the enrollment process for the AFA program.
  • Represent DCAD professionally and ethically by engaging and participating in external recruiting events, meetings, and conferences, including delivery of promotional presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative, cooperative relationships with feeder institutions and key faculty and staff partners across campus.
  • Conduct quantitative and analytical evaluations of all enrollment and recruitment efforts to measure their effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to analyze demographic trends and anticipate recruitment needs, coordinate recruitment and marketing activities including promotional materials and recruitment-related web content and social media.
  • In collaboration with the Communications and Marketing department, assist in the content and/or development of recruitment marketing materials.
  • Respond to extensive email and telephone inquiries from prospective students and ensure accurate and timely processing of student communication and applications through the Customer Relationship Management System
  • Outreach to traditional, non-traditional, and international student markets.
  • In concert with the Academic Dean, establish and help to achieve enrollment goals and objectives for all students.
  • Develop processes to capture and assess stakeholder input related to the effectiveness of outreach and recruitment strategies.
  • As Director, coordinate, manage, supervise, and participate with the recruitment team in the following activities/responsibilities:
    • Communicate unique program benefits, admission processes/requirements, and financial planning/scholarship information.
    • Develop an extensive understanding of the College’s academic programs, facilities, faculty, academic support staff, and initiatives in order to provide prospective and admitted students and parents with an understanding of academic majors, admission procedures, scholarship opportunities, and other subjects of concern to prospective students.
    • Develop, coordinate, host, and manage volunteers at recruitment events, such as campus visits, fairs, and virtual sessions (on-campus and off-campus)
    • Provide frequent data reports for dissemination amongst College leadership, such as year-end reports, accreditation, and other related functions.
    • Forecast and manage recruitment budget needs.
    • Support graduation and end-of-year activities and other program initiatives as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in higher education admissions.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Spanish language facility a plus.
  • Energy, drive, and a passion for art and design education.
  • Experience with CRM (Slate highly preferred) and/or LMS (Populi) for prospect communications and database management.
  • WordPress experience for Admissions’ website updates a plus.
