July 18th 2014

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (JULY 2014) – The Delaware College of Art and Design is offering its Pre-College Art Studio Program for the eighth year, with a record number of 53 participants. The weeklong summer program, designed for passionate rising junior and senior high school students who are serious about preparing for college admission in the areas of art and design will take place July 21-25, 2014.

Students in this year’s program will come to DCAD’s downtown Wilmington campus from 8 different states including: Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.  A majority of students will live on campus in the 707 Residence Hall, DCAD’s on-campus housing.

According to DCAD Dean, Ron Brignac, “We are thrilled to see the continued growth of Pre-College and feel very fortunate to offer some of the best and brightest high school artists the opportunity to work with DCAD’s art and design instructors, all experienced and practicing artists in their fields.”

Students spend half their day in a college-level drawing course and the other half in a chosen elective.  Electives include:  animation, graphic design, illustration, interior design, painting, and photography with emphasis on creating portfolio-building work.  Field trips and evening activities round out the week. The program will conclude with an exhibition of student work in the Toni & Stuart B. Young Gallery on Friday, July 25, at 5 p.m. for the Pre-College Art Studio students, their friends, and families.
