DCAD students exhibit at Delaware Museum of Natural History through April 19

February 18th 2014

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (February 2014) – The state’s only professional school of art and design and the state’s only museum of natural history will team up this March for Nature’s Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art, a unique, curated exhibition showcasing work inspired by the natural world. The Delaware College of Art and Design will display work by students in a variety of media beginning Friday, March 7 at the Delaware Museum of Natural History.

Over the years, students at the Delaware College of Art and Design have partnered with the Delaware Museum of Natural History in many ways. Through their coursework they have volunteered time to develop exhibition materials, and utilized their knowledge of photography, illustration and painting for the benefit of the Museum. In 2012, DCAD students created unique artwork for the collaborative Natural Attraction: Nature-Inspired Art exhibition, held at the Delaware Museum of Natural History.

This year, DCAD and the Museum have teamed up again to present Nature’s Bounty, a collection of artwork inspired by nature, ranging from representational subjects to the abstract. The artwork represents a wide range of technique from students enrolled in the College’s six majors of study: Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, and Photography. The students—and a few DCAD alumni—submitted more than 60 works for consideration in the exhibition. A jury of artists and representatives from local cultural institutions selected 32 from that pool for inclusion in the exhibition.

Nature’s Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art will be on display March 7 – April 19, 2014. The opening reception will be held from 5-8PM on Friday, March 7 and will be part of the City of Wilmington’s Art Loop.  The reception is free and open to the public. The work will be for sale to the general public.

This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
